eGPU for 2018 mac mini
I need a PCIe GeForce graphics card for my 2018 mac mini. There appears to be a multitude of graphics cards and need help with selecting one around $200 to $300. I would very much appreciate any suggestions.

Hi, barrie32- in answer to your question, yes, pretty much so. About the only nVidia cards that would work would be those with the “Kepler” chipset … especially in Mojave or later… nvidia and apple have this longstanding feud going… so basically your choices would be a “Kepler” nVidia video/graphics card or one with an AMD chipset in it… plus grafix/video cards are in short supply generally, and there’s a shortage of chips (Blame crypto mining for that first bit) .. so high demand + short supply + overall chip shortage = higher prices overall… you may be able to squeak by with an R9 280 x or rx-460 /rx-480 card… plus an egpu enclosure… mac native or Mac flashed would be OK…you might want to check out egpu.io for more info…

from this article:
Use an external graphics processor with your Mac - Apple Support
Pay close attention to the section: Supported eGPU configurations
Using any other graphics cards besides the ones listed can prove to be problematic, if they work at all.
I didn't see any that support geForce. Is the Apple list of eGPU's the only choice?
Hello John b. Thanks very much for the information. I now know where to search which relieves me from my previous hit and miss approach.
You’re welcome, barrie32. That’s why i’m here and we’re here, to ask questions, maybe get some help, maybe a few answers, helpful suggestions, just fellow Mac users helping each other out…
