Apple TV 4K not connecting to AV receiver

I have been trying to connect a 4k Apple TV to a receiver and then out to a projector.

I have connected via HDMI cable the Apple TV 4K to a Pioneer 1080p receiver. Then via HDMI on the receiver out to my Epson Projector.

The projector receives NO signal at all from Apple TV.

However, if I plug the Apple TV directly into the projector (via HDMI) it works fine.

And also if I plug the Apple TV directly into a TV HDMI input it works fine.

It is ONLY when I connect Apple TV to Receiver that it does not work.

I have an older Apple TV generation 2, and that works fine thru the receiver.

How do I fix this so sound and video will work thru the receiver?

Thank you.

Try this:

If your Apple TV doesn't turn on - Apple Support

If you see […] a black screen, hold Menu and Volume Down for 6 seconds, then release. Your Apple TV will switch to a new resolution/video setting every 20 seconds. Select OK to choose a resolution or Cancel to quit.
