Defining header row in existing excel file while using Numbers on iPad

First time Apple Numbers user here.

I have an existing excel file that I’m trying to edit and work using Numbers on iPad. The first row in each of my tabs is the header row but the Numbers app is considering the first row as regular data row and defining the fields’ name as column a, column b, etc. This is creating a challenge when I take a pivot as the supposedly header row is being shown as the data elements in the pivot.

How do i make the first row as the header in the Numbers? Attached the screenshot for the reference.

Hi Harry,

Tap anywhere on the table to select it.

Tap on the paintbrush icon.

Tap on the Table button.

Tap on Headers and Footer.

Now you can add (+) Header Rows.

You can add colour fill to row 1 if you wish to make it stand out as a Header Row.

Tap on the row label 1 to select the whole of Row 1.

Tap on the paintbrush icon.

Tap on the Cell button.

Scroll to Cell Fill and choose Preset (a limited range of colours) or choose Colour fo a greater range of colours.

Regards,

Ian.
