Alternative to Adobe Acrobat Pro

Friends,

I am preparing to update my mid-2015 MacBook Pro Retina from macOS 10.14.6. I understand Adobe Acrobat Pro is incompatible with OS Catalina and beyond, besides which I'm not interested in a cloud-based or subscription model of software use like Adobe has adopted.

The most important features I need include these:

creating pdfs from scanned documents, or downloads;

creating portfolios to collate related documents yet keep them separate;

editing pdfs by adding/deleting/re-ordering pages;

optimizing and reducing the size of pdfs;

password-protecting pdfs;

combining multiple files into single pdfs;

and the ability to batch-process multiple pdfs, such as when optimizing and reducing pdf size.

This question was asked here by another community member back in 2019, and received a couple of replies, but the landscape of software developers and products has changed a bit since then.

My current reading leads me to two potentially worthy alternatives: Nitro PDF Pro for Mac (formerly PDFpen/Pro), and Foxit PDF Editor for Mac, both costing about the same for one-time licenses.

Have any members here used either of these, or both, or have insights that may help decide between them, or have other alternatives with the same capabilities profile to suggest?

Many thanks in advance for kindly sharing your advice and guidance,

Barry

Adobe Acrobat Pro is perfectly compatible with Catalina and beyond, you just don't want to pay for an upgrade. You also say you don’t want to pay for a subscription. Well, that leaves out most of the worthwhile software packages. The PDF format is proprietary to Adobe so not many developers can provide the features you want, especially editing. Many make claims they cannot backup. Good luck on your search.

I appreciate your reply.

I'm specifically looking for an alternative to the Adobe product. PDF Expert has been reviewed as lacking advanced features like the ones I seek, and the developer of the Code Industry product you referenced is based in the Russian Federation, which I choose to steer clear of. The PDFpen product is now the Nitro PDF Pro, which has been favorably reviewed and is one of the choices I'm considering, which is why I wondered if anyone has personal experience with it.

Again, thank you for your reply.
