How to disable Photos on AppleTV?

How to disable Photos on AppleTV after enabling? The previous solution provided in support no longer applies in that the menu options shown no longer appear. There is an option to disable Home Sharing however that also disables access to personal movies purchased, etc.

Thank you for responding very quickly to my question. I apologize if my reply seems blunt however, after going from Apple device to Apple device in my home plus going through every System Preference for iCloud and Photos on each device, I find your advice only partially accurate. System iCloud & Photos preferences affect only the individual appliance. They do not affect any other device.

iCloud Photos and Home Sharing can be enabled/disabled directly on an AppleTV. (AppleTV HD; tvOS 15.5.1 (19L580)) I had turned on Photos/iCloud Photos on my AppleTV by clicking and holding down on it's icon on the main screen till it started jiggling, then clicking on the Play/Pause button which causes a screen featuring Turn on iCloud Photos to appear. Clicking on that screen takes you to another which offers the same or choosing Not Now. If you choose to enable iCloud Photos you are then asked for your iCloud account and Password to complete the process.

Unfortunately disabling Photos/iCloud Photos on AppleTV is not as straight forward. Once enabled, clicking and holding down on the Photos icon till it starts jiggling, followed by clicking on the Play/Pause button results in a screen offering the option to create a New Folder or Cancel)

To turn off Photos/iCloud Photos:

Settings>

Users and Accounts>

the account named under Default User>

Under ICLOUD (not Apple ID) click on iCloud Photos

This will turn off iCloud Photos on AppleTV as well as allowing options for turning off or on:

Shared Albums, My Photo Stream and One Home Screen to appear

Home Sharing can be turned on/off on AppleTV at the bottom of:

Settings> User and Accounts> Home Sharing (showing account name)

Again, thank you for your very quick response to my question.

  • Photo sharing through Home Sharing/Computers app is managed on the Mac or PC, not on Apple TV. You can select what to share, or not share any local photos. How that is done, depends on the computer’s OS version.
  • Photo sharing through the Photos app is managed in your account settings for iCloud, as that accesses online iCloud Photo Library. Settings﹥Users and Accounts﹥[You]﹥iCloud Photos and …﹥My Photo Stream

True, but that turns off Home Sharing for videos and music as well; not just photos. To keep Home Sharing for videos/music but disable photo sharing, you’ll have to change the configuration on the source computer.
