Mac mail attachments (excel or preview)

Some setting has changed, when I go to share a excel sheet or preview document, I do what I normally do go to file, share, send workbook, usually it populates a blank email in Mac mail with the attachment in the body of the email, now I just get a little beep and no email. Any ideas?

Mail removes my attachment when I enter an email address Sometimes, when I compose an email and insert an attachment before I designate the email recipient, it removes my attachment when I enter the email address of the recipient. This makes me look very unprofessional when I have to send a second email with the attachment, as if I was a space cadet and forgot to attach it the first time. I am usually catch it before I hit Send, but sometimes I forget, especially when I am in a hurry. Any support for this? MacBook Pro 2020 13", M1, 2020 Monterey 12.3.1

Apple Mail v16.0 with OS Monterey 12.6.1 (MacBook Air) -- Not showing Attachment Icon for incoming mail I know this has been asked elsewhere but not for some time and not with a satisfactory answer. Does anyone know how to make Apple Mail show the attachment icon in the relevant attachment column when viewing mail in Column View, please. Not immediately seeing that emails have attachments is disconcerting! I know how to make the relevant column show but nothing I have been ankle to do makes the attachment icon show there when an email does have ran attachment. I should say that this problem seems restricted to incoming mail. Outgoing messages do clearly show not just the paperclip icon but also the number of items attached. Many thanks.

I just drag the file into the email body and send.
