Mail removes my attachment when I enter an email address

Sometimes, when I compose an email and insert an attachment before I designate the email recipient, it removes my attachment when I enter the email address of the recipient. This makes me look very unprofessional when I have to send a second email with the attachment, as if I was a space cadet and forgot to attach it the first time. I am usually catch it before I hit Send, but sometimes I forget, especially when I am in a hurry. Any support for this?
