Can't access certain websites after iOS 15.5 update

As the title says, after update to iOS 15.5 (or, occurring randomly at around the same time as the update), I can no longer access certain websites through Safari that I could a couple of days ago. Progress bar loads partway and then hangs, until the screen goes dark or I hit "back" button.

An example of an affected website is docs.scummvm.org It worked fine a couple days ago. Still does in chrome. But not in Safari. I have cleared my browser cache, it did not help. Other websites are affected too, that is just one I remember and can test.

Hello bwh,

If you are unable to access specific sites in Safari on your iPhone, follow these steps from If Safari displays a blank page or quits on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to start:

Connect to a different network
Try to load a website, like www.apple.com, using cellular data. If you don't have cellular data, try connecting to a different Wi-Fi network and then try loading the website.

Restart your device
Turn off your device and turn it on again. Here's how:
iPhone

Clear website data
You can clear website data occasionally to improve Safari performance. If you still need help, follow these steps:
1. Go to Settings > Safari.
2. Tap Clear History and Website data.
3. Tap Clear History and Data to confirm.

Get more help
If the issue continues and only effects a certain website or webpage, contact the website developer for more help.

If this continues after looking over that, are you using a VPN of any kind or have any profiles/device management installed under Settings > General > Profiles & Device Management?

Cheers!

Well I can't really explain it, but here's what I've observed.

  1. a few days ago, the site worked in Safari on my iPod
  2. around the time of the 15.5 update (I want to say it was immediately after but I can't be certain of that), the site stopped working in Safari.
  3. I was still able to access the site from my device using Chrome and Firefox browsers, while Safari continued to fail (blank page).
  4. I do use pi-hole on my network (https://pi-hole.net); disabling this had no effect.
  5. I already cleared my website history and data, this had no effect.
  6. I tried connecting to a different network (hotspot from my cell phone) -- hey, this works!
  7. now here's the weird part -- I get back on my home network, and the site STILL works, in Safari, on the network, with pi-hole enabled...I don't get it, all I did was connect once from a different network and now it works again? In any case, this one site seems to be working and if I come across another one, at least I know what to try first.

I don't know why that link was removed, it's just the documentation for a game engine software. I really don't know why it was removed from that post and not the first one, but anyway... It happened again on a different site & the same fix worked immediately. Evidently I am going to have to do this for every affected website, unless another fix is proposed.
