Will my watch be ruined in water after it dies?

If i turn on the water lock before swimming but while swimming my apple watch dies, while dead is it still water proof and protected?

The water lock only stops accidental screen touches to the watch by the water,it has no effect whatsoever on the water resistance of the watch.
