Invisible Participant in iMessage Group

Im on a long standing thread with my sisters who live in the same city. Out of the blue my brother-in-law (married to the sister who lives far away) answered the chat. There’s nothing to suggest he was added, and he’s never been included in this group before. The count and list of people don’t show him & none of us added him. It looks like a new chat to him, but the rest of us can scroll through months of history. Almost like he was added in, but without the notification? Does this mean there are other txts that could have included the wrong person?? We’re in the process of planning a surprise party - how do we know others aren’t getting added to our group txts without our knowledge?

A person can only be added to a group imessage that already has 3 other people in it.

ASk your sister if she is sharing apple id with him for imessage.
