Apple Music randomly plays when I remove AirPods

This issue has been an ongoing one for me. Occasionally — not always but just often enough to be a hassle — my iPhone starts playing Apple Music when I remove my AirPods Pro.

This started a number of years ago. At the time, I never even used Apple Music. One day, I said “Hey Siri, play some jazz.” And jazz music started playing via Apple Music. But ever since then, I’ll take out my AirPods after watching YouTube or playing a game or something, and then my phone starts playing jazz via Apple Music — an app I never intentionally use.

Recently I subscribed to Apple One, which includes Apple Music, and the frequency of the random playing has increased. I casually browsed Apple Music once, and now when I remove my AirPods, my phone starts playing random songs related to the ones I browsed through.

In short, I don’t want my phone to play ANYTHING after I take out my AirPods, much less random songs from an app I don’t actively use.

Thanks! I’ve just toyed with both Autoplay and Ear Detection, so we will see what happens. I have my doubts though; apparently Autoplay is only available to those who subscribe to Apple Music; I’ve only been subscribed for a few weeks, but this issue has been going on for a few years. The key difference is now that I’ve subscribed to Apple Music, it has expanded the types of songs it randomly plays when I take my AirPods out. Prior to subscribing, it would only play a random jazz station and that free U2 album that I can never seem to remove.

I can’t remember for sure, but I think this issue also predates me owning my current AirPods Pro, which I got a year and a half ago.

I never should’ve said “hey Siri, play some jazz!”

i listen to mostly audiobooks. If I pause them for more than a few min or receive a call or use any

other app that uses audio (camera/video eg.) when I unpause it starts playing a random song from my really old iTunes. I don’t use The music app at all, nothing is turned on auto play, and when it says happen doesn’t show the music app is even open therefore I can’t force close it. Don’t wanna lose my old music but I’m just going to delete the music app if I can. This happens pretty much every day four or five times a day. (I use my airpod pros a lot)

It's really annoying that you can't control this if you have multiple devices - you turn off automatic ear detection on one device and if you haven't turned it off on all devices it will 'detect' it and switch it back on for you. It is as if Apple is playing an April Fools joke on you daily. Dear Apple: It's not hard - just don't automatically change settings and allow a human only to update settings. Not everyone wants music starting every time you put in earphones. It's freakin' annoying.

I'm having the same issue. I pause my Spotify, then take out my AirPods in my quiet office, and awful music I downloaded 8 years ago starts screeching from my iPhone speakers prompting everyone to look at me. When this happens elsewhere it's bearable, when it's affecting my entire office it's down right embarrassing. I can no longer use my AirPods Pro at work because of this problem.

hmm... this is interesting. i just clicked that off - will see if that removes the issue.

i have regular air pods (not pro), but same symptoms as all posting here. it's seemingly random too. I have tried to repeat (air pods in, end call/music, pull out airpods, put in case, close case ... 2-5 secs later is when the music --random-- starts up).

i'll report back if this makes it go away!
