Apple CarPlay not remembering my iPhone- "Device is not registered" message

I can't get my Apple CarPlay system to remember my iPhone XS in my new 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross. It remembers my wife's iPhone XR and connects to it without prompting every time. But for my XS, the vehicle display always makes me tap the "Always Enable" button. Even after doing that, only my wife's XR shows up on the registered devices list, which makes me think the problem is a setting on my phone rather than the car. I can confirm Siri is fully enabled, CarPlay is enabled under Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions > Allowed Apps, and USB Accessories is turned on under Face ID & Passcode. I used CarPlay in my 2017 Ford Escape with the same iPhone for years without a problem. Since I traded in that car, I removed the vehicle from my phone's CarPlay settings. But while I do see the new vehicle listed in my CarPlay settings now, it keeps asking me to enable on the vehicle's screen every time I connect. Never with my wife's XR though. Even after removing her phone from the vehicle's CarPlay device list, my phone fails to appear on the list even while connected. What am I missing here?

iPhone XS, iOS 15
