Apple TV bug: erroneous password requests/“not authorized” on Computers app

Anyone else having this problem?


As of this week after hours of trial and error, ATV is prompting erroneous requests for password every time you try to play a purchased movie or show on either TV app, Movies app or TV Show app regardless of user password settings. Ignoring the prompt, by pressing the back button once, begins playing the content fine…


Related issue began same time: When attempting to use the Computers app to stream downloaded DRM purchases with Home Sharing, it says “authorization required” every time no matter how many times I’ve unauthorized and reauthorized on PC, turned home sharing off and on (on both ATV and PC) and even reinstalled iTunes on PC. Issue occurs ONLY with DRM downloaded purchases. Other Home Sharing playback flawless.

When referring to the user password settings, do you meant the purchase requirement settings?

Set password requirements in the Apple TV app


"Set password requirements for purchases

  1. Navigate to Settings in the Apple TV app TV app.
  2. Go to  Accounts > Password Settings > Require Password, then select Always, After 15 Minutes, or Never."


If so, is that option set to never?


Additionally, you'll want to be sure " Both the device and Apple TV must be signed in with the same Apple ID, and both must have Home Sharing turned on."

Stream content with Home Sharing on Apple TV


If the issue continues with the password request, sign out, restart and test.

Use Home Sharing to share media from a computer to other devices The section "Use Home Sharing on your Apple TV" at the bottom has the steps to ensure access is granted.


Reach out to Apple Support directly if you continue to have a conflict with the authorization after the sign out and restart of the devices.
