Don't want iCloud Email Address

My Apple ID is a gmail address. I have and iCloud account. I use my gmail address to sign in to my iCloud account. In addition, I have an iCloud Email address. I don't want that iCloud email address anymore. 1. is it possible to just have my gmail account for everything and get rid of the iCloud email address altogether? 2. If I must have an iCloud email address, since I have an iCloud account, can I at least make a brand new iCloud email address and get rid of the old one? When I go to mail settings, IMAP is next to my iCloud email address. There are no options to change it or delete it. '

What are the steps to either 1. get rid of the iCloud email address or 2. make a new primary iCloud email address?
