Changing Apple ID
I am trying to change my ID but keep getting the error message “You can only add the @me.com address that is already on file with your account” What do I do?

You cannot change the primary email address of any AppleID to an @me.com nor a @mac.com address. Since MobileMe shut down near a decade ago now, those addresses are simply aliases to your @icloud.com email address and thus they cannot be used as the primary email address.
You can login to your AppleID using those addresses, but they cannot be listed as the primary email.
