I received an error on my iphone indicating the Apple gift card I purchased was not activated properly. What do I do?

When entering a new Apple Gift Card I received a message on my iphone stating the card was not activated properly. What is the best thing to do regarding this. I purchased it at CVS.

Before taking it to CVS with the receipt:

Check ▶︎ Gift Card Balance.
