Sync books to iPhone

iPhone SE (3rd gen) iOS 15.4, syncing to MacMini (2020) OS 12.4. Why can't I get books and PDFs to sync to the phone? See screenshots.....what am I doing wrong?

Hi Dan Dan the Yearbook Man,

We understand that you're attempting to sync PDF files from Books to your iPhone, but they don't appear when you connect your iPhone, correct?

We do see that you're running an earlier iOS version. You may consider creating a backup of your iPhone then update it to iOS 15.5 and attempt to sync your devices again: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

You can also use the Files app to transfer files between your devices as outlined here: Transfer files between iPhone and your computer - Apple Support
