mail - google less secure pop access without 2 factor

So as of May 30, 2022 google has disabled the less secure app option for apps. Specifically mail pop services without giving your phone number to google.

Mail doesn't have a signin with google through pop access, only using IMAP.

Is there a way to use "Sign in with Google" through pop?

Or generating an app password without sharing your phone number with google? Not a fan of sharing phone numbers with sites in general unless I deem it beneficial.

It's not really about the topic in that thread I feel. Sure if you are saying it's google's issue not apple because it's a google service. That can be said about just about anything. IT's all about the threshold of compliance.

It is up to the Owner of the problematic Mail Service ( G-mail ) to comply with the Platform ( Apple macOS ) on which their Service is intended to be used.

As well as the User to perform their Due Diligence before hand.

Same meaning different words. Not exactly a solution to the issue. Talk to the vendor we can't do anything. Thanks for the effort, greatly appreciated.

"Due Diligence before hand." - as shared in the original post this was something new that occurred from Google. So the "Due Diligence before hand." has nothing to do with the service change.

There has been sufficient advise / suggestions offered for the User to make an informed and educated choice what the next course of action is required.

The suggestions have been put forth on a volunteer basis, in good faith and in the best interests of the computer.

You can set up your gmail as POP —the trick is use the "Other" option if necessary— use a bogus email address that does not resolve—

this will trigger an additional dialogue box that includes POP. Then add your information.

Thanks for the response unfortunately. If you look the first post this bypass option no longer works because of what google has implemented. Now if apple was to implement what IMAP does which is popup with google signing that would resolve this issue.
