Question about two version of IPhone ?

There is at least one difference in the software between iPhones intended for sale in the U.S. and iPhones intended for sale in Korea. The Korean version doesn't let you turn off the shutters release sound for the camera; the U.S. version does let you do that. There may well be other differences.

Another important factor is that the warranty on an iPhone is restricted to the country in which is was purchased. So, if you purchase a phone in the U.S. and give it to someone in Korea, they would have to bring it to the U.S. if it ever needed warranty work

If you purchased the phone directly from Apple, you can return it within 14 days. However, you can't but the Korean version of the iPhone on the Apple Online Store in the U.S. nor are such phones available in U.S. Apple Stores. Also, you can't use a U.S. credit card to purchase something from the Apple Online Store for Korea. Gift cards are also limited to the region in which they were purchased.

Do you more details about exactly why she thinks the two phones are "different"? Aside from the camera shutter sound, the "software" should be the same. Both can be run in either English or Korean, for example and have the same apps.

You could see if one of those Visa gift cards can be used internationally. However, I'd be very careful and do lots of research before committing.
