unable to play iTunes store purchases from iTunes library

I am unable to play iTunes store purchases which have been downloaded to my local iTunes library from an iPhone or iPad using Home Sharing. This problem does not exist when using my AppleTV device to access the he iTunes library. The error message I receive states that something like “no longer have access to this content or content is unavailable”. I am able to stream the content from the AppleTV app on the iPhone and iPad, just not from the shared library. The devices are on the same local network as the library.

any thoughts?

I have resolved my issue. Thank you to everyone who responded. There is a time-based rule in my home that restricts devices from watching YouTube during certain hours of the day. My iPhone and iPad traffic TCP/443/SSL for purchased content was being marked as YouTube traffic and blocked. My Home Movies traffic TCP/443/SSL was being marked as iTunes-based traffic and allowed. I confirmed that purchased content was working outside the restricted hours and then updated the time-based rule to include my iPhone and iPad as exceptions.

Hi there QuintillianDex,

If you're having issues playing content on your computer using Home Sharing, have a look at these suggestions:

Before you set up Home Sharing
- Update all of your Apple devices to the latest versions of iOSiPadOSmacOS, and tvOS. On your PC, make sure that you have the latest version of iTunes for Windows.
- Connect all of your devices to the same Wi-Fi or Ethernet network.
- Make sure that all of your devices are signed in with the same Apple ID and authorized to play purchases using that Apple ID.

Cheers!

Correct. My Home Movies work fine on iPhone and iPad. It is only purchased Movies and TV shows. I have also confirmed that purchased Music still works via Home Sharing iTunes library as well

iTunes is version 12.12.4

iPad and iPhone are running 15.4.1 and 15.5

i know purchased content used to work. I am beginning to suspect it stopped working somewhere in iOS 15.
