Word documents

I purchased a new Mac air today. I have a Microsoft Word account that I used on my old Mac. I have downloaded word on the new Mac but none of my documents are showing up. How do I get them on the new Mac air?

can word documents be transferred to pages so they are usable? I have a new Mac and used migration to transfer all of my documents. Instead of getting word can I use Pages to open the document?
