Watch will not pair! needs update.

I am trying to pair my watch with my phone and it says that i need to update the watches software. Although then it says i need to update my phone to the latest update before i can update the watch. BUT, my phone is UP TO DATE. It wont let me get past this step.

Watch wont update, and wont finish pairing My wife gave me her old apple watch, but it won’t update to complete the pairing. It just says to update my phone software, despite it already being up to date.
