My Mac is showing the wrong date & time even though I have chosen the right region, and selected "set date and time automatically". The time zone is also in the right region. I have not switched on my macbook in a while so I'm thinking this is why it is not showing the right time. Please help me solve this problem!

You give no example of the discontinuity...(?)
How far off, a time zone away, off by years, wrong month, wrong day.... need something to go on here(?)
From Terminal.app you you can re-sync with Apple time servers, copy and paste:
sudo sntp -sS time.apple.com

You can try as suggested above, reinstall th macOS on top of your existing macOS to sort anomaloes
