Hi,
I'm running Apple Mail on a 2021 Macbook Pro with the latest version of Monterrey. I've had some serious problems caused by Photos, and no longer use it. I want to embed images where I choose within an email, but I no longer see a way to do this if those images aren't in Photos. Suggestions?

I just checked Mail. I can drag images into the body of an email. Make sure "Insert Attachments at End" is unchecked in Mail > Edit > Attachments.

Try dragging the photo right from the Finder directly to your message in Mail.
Oh, I see. By embedding you mean not attaching, but actually insert it into the text.
As far as I can tell, Mail does not support this.
Besides, the behavior is exactly the same, whether getting from the Photos browser in Mail or dragging from the Finder.
FWIW, Mozilla Thunderbird can insert images. I imagine there are other emails clients that may as well.
It is worth noting that, regardless of anything you do, how an email displays is entirely down to the settings and capabilities of the client on the receiver's machine. If you want to be sure that your layout will be maintained in an email, create it in Pages or Word or whatever you choose, save it as a pdf and send that.
I was able to do this until very recently. Do you know what changed? It seems utterly ridiculous to me that I can't add inline images to illustrate what I'm talking about in an email. I'm still hopeful that I can find a workaround. Thanks for all your help!
