MacBook Pro M1 16" will not charge anymore. the light on the magsafe turns orange, but the battery icon shows that it keeps running on battery. It does that until the battery runs dead. the only way to get it to charge again, is by rebooting your system. Only then will it start charging again. Any ideas how to sort?

Does a restart change anything? On an M1 Mac, that is the equivalent of an SMC reset on an Intel Mac.

Have you run Apple DIagnostics? Use Apple Diagnostics to test your Mac - Apple Support

Use the instruction set for "Apple Silicon."

If that changes nothing and lobsterghost1's suggestion does not move you forward, you need to have Apple evaluate the computer.

Allan/Lobster - thanks for the responses. Have tried with 3x magsafes; restart fixes it (but recurs if running on bat power for over an hour); and Apple Diagnostics reported "no issues'. There's a recent video on YTube by someone with similar problem. Seems to have started after last update . . . Thanks again for the support.
