Is it save to uncheck "Automatically manage connection settings" under Server Settings in the Mac mail app for my Exchange account on Mac/MacBook? Continuously getting pop up ”EXCHANGE PASSWORD REQUIRED: Enter your password for test@example.com in Internet Accounts.” The password is definitely correct. Thank you.

I understand. The problem lies in the way the Exchange server is configured, which is impossible to fix on the client end.
The most expedient way to fix that problem is to remove the problematic Mail Account, and then add it again.
First remove: Remove email accounts in Mail on Mac - Apple Support
Another work around that works for pop up ”EXCHANGE PASSWORD REQUIRED: Enter your password for test@example.com in Internet Accounts.” is to log into Outlook web with your respected outlook account. After that the pop up disappears, however, it is sort of only temporary and eventually at some point the same happens again.

Someone in a post on discussions.apple.com posted the following that fixed his issue. I am looking for thoughts about this suggestion? Is this a feasible option, or can this interrupt Email TX/RX. Unfortunately I cannot find any detailed information regarding setting this option on/off using Exchange in Mac Mail app.

I think I did it! This was super annoying to me, too, and I didn't want to keep logging into the VPN to get it to stop the notifications.
Go to Mail -> Preferences -> selected the exchange account -> server settings -> uncheck "automatically manage connection settings"
Let me know if that works. It seems to be working for me. Plus I'm still able to log into the VPN normally and mail automatically connects.
