USB C to 3.5mm Headphone Adapter - static issues
There have been various questions about this but am hopeful someone can throw light on the issue for me. I am using a fully loaded 5th Gen 12.9" M1 iPadPro WiFi & Cellular 2TB and when I connect my Sony MDR7506 Professional Studio Monitoring headphones with the Apple USB C to 3.5mm Headphone Adapter I have static issues, which is a problem for video editing and refining audio field recordings. I have also tested both the dongle with my BOSE “QuietComfort® 20 Acoustic Noise Cancelling™ headphones – Apple® devices” and the problem is even worse - there is feedback and buzzing whenever you touch the screen with your fingers. This suggests that there is possibly an earthing issue (or, more correctly, a lack of earthing).
Apple sent me a replacement adapter and the problem is replicated. It is also replicated when I use the dongles/adapter with my CalDigit Thunderbolt 4 Element Hub.
Apple have offered to replace my iPadPro... but I am concerned that will not solve the issue. They have agreed to escalate the case with their engineering team. I sense the problem is in the Apple consumer grade adapter/dongle rather than the iPadPro or headphones - unlike my other audio gear, the adapter has a very flimsy cable which I assume is 'unshielded' and may be the weak link.
It would very be helpful to learn if anyone has ameliorated this static problem and could recommend an alternative brand of USB C to 3.5mm headphone jack that does not have these issues. I am assuming that it is the dongle that it is at fault, but there may have a hardware or software solution I could test on the iPadPro itself before initiating a replacement iPad. I am open to any suggestions, as the current audio chain is not of acceptable quality and not fit for purpose. Thanks.
