Actually, most Apple products (including AirPod cases) have smart battery charging, which will learn your routines, then be smart about charging the battery. Because of new battery technology, you can charge your case whenever you like (though I don't recommend letting it discharge completely).

With the case, you should get about 24 hours for your AirPods. Charging them for just five minutes will give you about an hour of listening time.

No- in fact, they never really turn off at all. Even in the charging case they simply 'sleep', ready to go when you want them.
