Books apps doesn't allow copy. Why isn't copy greyed out on the edit menu?

I'm in Canada, I think that may be the problem. From: Apple Books User Guide:

Share book quotes

1. In the Books app on your Mac, click Books (or another collection) in the sidebar, then double-click a book.
2. On a page, select the text that you want to quote.
3. A quote can include up to 200 words. Sharing is available only in the United States.

I don't have the book but I can't copy from the sample. And Copy is greyed out.

It's not greyed out because you can copy selections from a book.

I can't copy and paste from Julia Child's "Mastering the Art of French Cooking." I assume it is because of DRM protection.

I can't copy a selection from a DRM books but can copy from non DRM books. Is there anybody in Canada who can?

If a book has DRM protection I doubt it can be copied anywhere.

No. Apple Books won't allow copying of any books for copyright reasons. (It might be possible or books in the public domain.) Copy is both greyed out in Edit menu and pop up menu.

As I note above the Apple doc says you can copy 200 words in the US

FWIW, I'm in the U.S., and I can't copy any words with a copy-protected book.
