I can't hear the caller when I answer the phone with Airpod#2. (Airpod#1 works fine).

I love airpods because they are far superior to my hearing aids for Live Listen,

I like airpods so much that I bought a second pair (AirPod#2) as backup in case the battery runs down.

I sometimes had problems where the audio for Airpod#2 was zero so I could not hear the caller.. Forgetting the device would fix the problem but it would reoccur within a month and I would need to "forget" the airpod again.

After several months, I recently figured out part of the problem: it turns out that AirPods permanently remembers their volume setting, so answering the phone with Airpod#2 might get volume 0 while answering with Airpod#1 might get volume 5.

The problem's root cause is that Airpod#2 volume would sometimes be set to ZERO/OFF even though I never do that intentionally. Does anybody know how that might happen?

By the way, now that I understand the problem, I simply push the top volume button on the left edge of my Iphone SE 2020, but my previous solution of "Forgetting" the device accomplished the same thing.

Greetings UncleBob,

When you go to Settings > Bluetooth does each set of AirPods have a unique name? If not, please rename them so they do. This can be something very practical such as AirPods Pair 1 or something whimsical.

Then, we’d like to have you attempt to switch pairs of AirPods that you’re using, by utilizing the AirPlay menu and see if there is any change in the behavior. Use AirPlay to stream audio

This AirPlay menu should be available in Phone app when on a call. Also, do you ever notice the issue when going back to set #1 of AirPods or is it only impacting set #2? Are they the same generation?

Thanks.

When I installed the airpods I named them Airpods1 and Airpods2.

Airpods2 have been reduced to zero volume about 4 times in the last two months. As far as I know it has never happened to airpods1, but the behavior is so random it is hard to say for sure.

Currently I switch between them by taking airpods1 out of my ears and putting airpods2 into my ears and vica versa which is convenient and intuitive and almost works fine except that volume control occasionally gets set to zero for some random reason.

Are you saying it would be better to use software controls to switch them?

Even if that is what your are suggesing, I can't use Airplay to switch them because my iphone se 2020 does not have airplay. the only menus I see look like this.
