Monterey installation issues
I have a 2020 retina 5k 27”. It has enough storage, but when I try to install Monterey I get the error message “MacOS Monterey can’t be installed on Macintosh HD”
iMac Line (2012 and Later)

Hmmm....
Did you try a safeboot and launch the installer from this environment.
If you download the full installer it will be sitting in your Applications folder ~12 GB in size
"Install macOS Montery.app" You launch it like an other applications
You can download it through a browser —directly
Monterey 12.4 full installer
SafeBoot How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support
Takes a bit longer to get to the login screen, does a quick disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, including dynamic loader cache, etc.
Login and test. Reboot as normal and test. Caches get rebuilt automatically.
Non Apple drives have presented some problems...if this is your situation, please advise
