Logitech M585/M590

I have difficulty with the mouse connection

Environment is near Harvey Norman store with lots of WiFi and Bluetooth equipment plus any passing traffic. Lots of [TV]... stuff is at the top of the bluetooth listing. I think that the WiFi/BlueTooth hardware installed on the ageing MBP (2012) is timer based - the display collects information and populates the bounding box and then sometimes repeats before getting to the MOUSE which is sitting close by.

So I assume the software on the Catalina MBP is doing a SORT before displaying - maybe.

I believe that the generic name presented by this mouse is confusing the user (ME).

YEP I know about the 2 position indicator lights after touching the round button.

The attempt at connecting seems to ping-pong between "Connected" and "Not Connected"

with the attendant pop-up/pop-down actions.

SO I WENT ONLINE and found "Perculia" an Apple App. This allows me to select either one

and it seems to allow for an immediate connection - even when the mouse goes to sleep.

I assume it does this to conserve battery life.

If the MacOS display would only provide the last few letters of the bluetooth MAC ADDRESS

it would be easy to see which one to choose when 2 devices with the same name pop up.

What I have done is fairly simple - once I do have a connection I (Catalina MacOS) select the

Connected M590 and rename it (M585/M590 -> MacOS/M590) - If I owned the M585 I would have named it (MacOS/M585).

So I also have an iPad and it seems to connect fairly quickly. The bottom light is assigned arbitrarily to the iPad (hoping I can rename this on the iPad) and the top light is assigned to my MBP. (MacOS/M590).

I also have another 2 MBP 's and I have a second Logi M590 I would be using with those 2.

No clicking no fuss.

I bought a friend of mine the M585 for his windows machine - his old mouse had a frayed USB cable.

I installed the software from Logitech and used its very well designed software button configuration

tool to please his tastes. He likes the quiet buttons very much and he often thanks me for his birthday gift by taking me out for lunch. NOW to see if I can convince him to buy a MBP.

I hope this helps
