[HELP!] MacBook Pro 16" (2019) Running Extremely Slow and Overheating.

My MacBook Pro 16" (2019) is getting extremely slow and hot recently, I checked Activity Monitor and saw kernel_task was using CPU like mad.

There was only Figma and Discord open, no heavy-duty software was running.

It's impossible to work normally and it is affecting my workflow.

Please Help!

kernel_task using 100's of percent CPU means the it has put the intel CPU chip into a low power mode to keep it from melting (literally melting in side the chip). Because of this kernel_task looks like it is hogging the CPU, which it is, but only to keep your Mac from destroying itself.

The most likely cause, considering this is a 5 to 6 year old Mac, is that the internal cooling fans have accumulated so much dust that they are no longer moving enough air to cool your Mac.

The other possibility is that processes that are consuming huge amounts of CPU, GPU and memory that is pushing the Mac to its limits:

Applications -> Utilities -> Activity Monitor -> View (menu) -> All Processes -> CPU (tab)

Applications -> Utilities -> Activity Monitor -> View (menu) -> All Processes -> Memory (tab)
