enabling MSS messaging on a mac

I’m getting “MMS Messaging needs to be enabled to send this message.

on my new MBA M1. found. How to forward SMS/MMS text messages from your iPhone to your iPad, iPod touch or Mac.

here’s what is says,

“Set up text message forwarding On your iPhone [etc[ . . . On your Mac, open Messages, choose Messages > Preferences, then click iMessage. Make sure that you're signed in to iMessage with the same Apple ID on all your devices.”

Where does that explain how to “enable” MMS messaging.. open Preference>Messages>iMessage. Then what? not place to “enable MMS Messaging.

These are many post regarding this problem. I’ve read most. It’s back to old MS solution of turning on-off. No explanation of how to enable MMS messaging

Is there no way to enable?

Thanks

There are 2 sentences on the page dealing with sending MMS on Mac: "On your Mac, open Messages, choose Messages > Preferences, then click iMessage. Make sure that you're signed in to iMessage with the same Apple ID on all your devices."

I am signed in with Apple ID. That doesn't say there is anything more to do. Nothing to enable. I am missing something.

I'm not trying to send messages to myself, but to others. And with a few I get, "Cannot send message. MMS Messaging needs to be enabled to send this message."

Thanks, but I was not asking what it is, but how to do it. How do I enable MMS messages. The Apple page on it doesn't say HOW. be grateful to learn that.

You need enable MMS on your iPhone.

I'd suggest that, on your iPhone, you go to Settings>Messages. Turn off Text Message Forwarding. Then, double-check that MMS Messaging is enabled. Then, Turn Text Message Forwarding on again and select your Mac. Review the article you linked to in your original post for more details.
