Macbook locked - How do I track or contact previous owner?

Found a Macbook Air that I know was stolen. The thief has been handled by police. How do I now inform the previous owner that we found his/her Macbook.

return stolen macbook work for pc repair shop got mackbook in for repairs.stolen but there no info off real owner police was of no help anything i cn do

Ensure that it's on, as they can track it with Find My. Other than that, the only thing you can do is contact the police, as they may be on the lookout for a device with that serial number.
