14 inch MacBook Pro keyboard backlight issues

hi !

just bought my MBP 14" 4 hours ago!

please see the attachment!!!

as you can see in the photo, the keys are not lit equally across the board. is it normal ? I asked Apple and they said I shall return it. but is it a new 'Keyboard-gate' thing or just an unlucky one.

The MacBook is under warranty- you shouldn't have to pay anything! This appears to be a manufacturing defect, which is covered by the one-year warranty.

According to the legal document-

"Your Apple-branded or Beats-branded hardware product (“Product”) is warranted against defects in materials and workmanship for a period of ONE (1) YEAR from the date of original retail purchase (“Warranty Period”) when used in accordance with Apple`s user manuals (refer to www.apple.com/support/country)"

You should be fine.

thanks man, all good except that i am in EU, which means its 2 yrs not 1 as in US :-)

however, if i return and re-buy, i will pay more, and if i walk in to Apple Store for a repair, it will be repaired for free.

seems like best scenario here is to to NOT return it to Amazon, but to actually fix it at Apple Store, that way I get it fixed & without paying more (for either keyboard repair or for new macbook at full price without sale)

but since you know it... couple of questions below:

1- if Apple fixes my issue, will I get less warranty of 3 months instead of my 2 yr ? considering my Mac is just brand new from today! can i simply trust Apple Genius that they will put it all back together without anything missing or misplaced or low repair quality ?

2- if Apple offers a replacement, will I get a refurbished one ? can I ask for 'new-for-new' replacement considering this machine is just brand new (bought it hours ago!!)

1 - Your warranty continues- after the service (and any subsequent services), you still get the rest of the warranty for your device, or 90 days, whichever is longer.

2 - The standard replacement policy for AppleCare is that, in the event it can't be fixed, you'll get a new device IF you return it within 14 days of purchase. If it's past that, the device will be refurbished. But, as you said, this was only a day or so ago, you should be able to go back a claim a new replacement (though they will most likely just replace the keyboard for you).

Hope that helped!
