Caller sound disabled during phone calls

During a phone call, I can’t hear the caller and they can’t hear me. Where you would usually click to switch audio type (speaker, bluetooth…) is disabled (shades in grey). I can’t activate the sound. I tried everything (update, volume, ringer switch, bluetooth, forced restart…). What can I do to fix this?

If you have a hearing or sound issue on your device then please try some of these processes to set it right

If the above options do not mitigate the issues then Contact your carrier and then Contact Apple Support
