The videos I have in Photos are not playing. Even the "play" command is not appearing. I can see the "play" button in the Touch Bar but when I hit it, it disappear and nothing happens. The same video works perfectly in the iPhone.

Could you give us some background information about your videos and the Photos Library?

  • Are you using iCloud Photos? Photos needs to be able to download the videos from iCloud, so check, if you have enough free storage and the internet connection is working.
  • Where is your Photos Library stored? If it is on an external volume, check if it is compatible with all requirements listed here: Move your Photos library to save space on your Mac - Apple Support . Additionally, videos may not be able to play, if the the file system format is case-sensitive.
  • How old are the videos? After the upgrade to macOS 10.15 Catalina or newer, some video formats are no longer supported, see: If you can't play videos in Photos on your Mac - Apple Support . macOS 14 has been the last system version to support the older formats. If you still have videos in an older format, convert them on a Mac with Mojave or use third-party video software, like HandBrake.
  • How old is your Mac? Some older Macs may not be able to play special video formats with a very high sample rate.
