Deleting emails in mail app is not reducing storage on iphone

I have just permanently deleted many emails from the email app on my iPhone.

Before I did this I checked how much storage space was being used for email app

and it was 2.22GB.   However I have just checked storage space under

general settings and under the email app it still says 2.22GB.  I have

also forced a restart but still the same!

iPhone 11

most of the time emails doesnt contribute towards iphone storage, its all in the cloud meaning - all the email storage is contributed towards cloud storage.

if the iphone is showing you 2.22 gb storage of email app , first try deleting the app itself and then check your storage again because sometimes app's data iself contributes itself towards the storage like updates and attache documents ,etc

And if the problem persists then there us some software issue.

also check icloud storage.
