Printing PDF/Random black boxes

I am trying to print a PDF and on random images a black box appears and blocks out content that is around it. From my understanding this is a bug within preview and has something to do with not being able to render layered images correctly. (I could be wrong about that.) I have seen workarounds that say print it as an image but I cannot find the option anywhere. Is there a fix for this yet? This seems like a pretty common issue that has been going on for a while now. Thanks for any help.

Download the current Adobe Acrobat Reader DC (not the Pro trial) and see if when you use the print icon on its toolbar, that you can or cannot reproduce what you are experiencing with Preview.

Let's start off by checking the helpful steps in this article: Print PDFs and images in Preview on Mac. Let us know if these are the steps you are taking.

If so, we advise that you restart your Mac (Shut down or restart your Mac) and make sure it's fully updated (Update macOS on Mac). Once those are done, please test this issue.

This could be a problem with some specific pdf.

If the problem is occurring when actually printing to paper, try Print and then click PDF->Save as PDF. Does the resulting pdf also have those black boxes?
