Phone number not verifying for imessage

I am traveling abroad without cellular service and my iMessage seems to have decoupled from my phone number. I am receiving messages to my iCloud email but not my phone number. When I try the steps listed on the help pages I’ve found, it always is stuck at verifying number and a spinning wheel is present for both IMessage and FaceTime for my number. Is there a way to fix this? I’ve never had this problem when traveling in airplane mode before.

Hi there Liammoms,

If you are trying to use iMessage with your phone number instead of your Apple ID email address, then:

You need SMS messaging to activate your phone number with iMessage and FaceTime. Depending on your carrier, you might be charged for this SMS.

This information and more is located here: If you can’t turn on or sign in to iMessage or FaceTime

Since you mentioned that you do not currently have cellular service on this device, we would recommend contacting your carrier to look into your available options. If you choose to continue to not have cellular service with your iPhone while traveling abroad, then you would only be able to use iMessage and FaceTime with your Apple ID email address while connected to a Wi-Fi network.

Cheers!
