The disc can’t be burned because the disc drive is not accessible (error code 0xFFFFFFFF80020020).

Macbook Pro 14 inch 2021 on macOS 12.0.1 trying to burn a cd on an external drive using Finder, but I keep on getting this error code. Any fix for this?

You are several revisions behind on your OS updates. You should install all the OS updates to see if perhaps the issue is resolved by the updates. Monterey is known to have a lot of compatibility issues with third party devices.

Plus if you have an M1 Mac, then there may be even more compatibility issues. I have personally experienced issues where a device works fine on an Intel Mac, but fails to work at all on an M1 Mac using the same version of macOS.

Make sure the optical drive is connected directly to the Mac since some adapters, docks, hubs may not be compatible. Make sure to use the proper cable as well since some drives may require extra power and utilize a dual/split cable connection.

You should also verify the optical drive works using another computer (older Intel Mac, or a regular Windows PC).
