how do i add an adult to my iCloud family sharing. it only gives me the option to add a child.

When you settings (on iPhone or iPad) or system preferences (on Mac) you should see the settings for iCloud and within that Family Sharing. From there you should have an option to add an Adult or Child. There may be a maximum # of Adults, however, so check to see if you already reached that limit.
