Just got Starlink and Apple TV to replace sat. TV - issues

In an attempt to replace HughesNet and Direct TV, I got the Apple 4K brick

to use with Starlink ...but I seem to find I lost general TV channels available

on Direct Tv?! So far the only thing I see to do is simply switch plugs. Perhaps there is another solution I am not seeing.... I paid my last Hughes bill.

As an aside, having lived within 100mi of the Whitehouse for 30yrs with poor cell and no broadband... even just set on a porch roof with general aiming and plugging into 110v ...this small, square’ish dish was blasting down signal in about 10min. Remarkable.

… I lost general TV channels

The Apple TV 4K box by itself does not provide “general TV channels” in the sense of linear/live TV. For that you will need a plan with a TV provider. That can be DirecTV Stream (different from DirecTV Satellite), or one of the other internet streaming TV providers (YouTube TV, Hulu+Live, Sling, Fubo, Philo, Pluto). Each of these has an app for the Apple TV box, and will offer packages of channels. Some of these services can be subscribed to through your Apple account, others will need a plan with the provider directly.

If you are more interested in VOD content, then those content providers will have apps available as well, again mostly via subscription (Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO Max, etc.).

Apple’s own TV app on the Apple TV box, also offers select premium in-app VOD channels. Similar to the separate apps, but conveniently in one app.
