i want to save my dad's photo library on my mac but keep it separate from my photo library

Hold down the option key when opening Photos to create a new library and/or choose the library to open.

ok, I created a new library on mine, but I can't see his library from my computer to get it to my computer.

You would need to copy all of his files (the library) to your computer, then open his library.
