WD My Passport is not showing up when connected

I use a Macbook Pro 16" 2021. When I connect my external hard disk to the MacBook (with an adapter) nothing comes up, I even checked in the disk utility, I wasn't able to see the hard disk mentioned there. How do I solve this issue?

Thank You

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 12.4

Has this specific drive & cable setup ever worked on this particular laptop before? If so, has anything changed recently to the hardware or software?

Is the drive connected directly to the laptop? Have you tried using another USB port especially on the other side of the laptop? What adapter and/or cable are you using?

Make sure to disconnect all other external devices from the laptop in case one of them is interfering.

Are you using the WD proprietary software to manage the drive?

What version of macOS are you running? You can get this information by clicking the Apple menu and selecting "About This Mac". Make sure macOS is completely up to date for the version of macOS you are using.

Within Disk Utility you may need to click "View" and select "Show All Devices" in order for the physical drive to appear on the left pane of Disk Utility. Does the physical drive or WD enclosure appear listed on the left pane of Disk Utility after doing this?

Sometimes a drive or a drive in an enclosure won't mount for whatever reason, even if it is recognized as a USB device. Have you tried looking in System Information under Hardware > USB? You get to this by going to > About This Mac and then clicking on System Report.

Other than that, I've noticed that I get better connections by using a dedicated micro-B 3.0 to USB-C cable rather than an adapter or through a hub.
