Force touch trackpad issues on Macbook pro M1

Hello, I would like to air my grievances regarding the new force touch trackpad on the M1 macbook pros. I do not seem to be the only user affected by the force touch trackpad, so if others are having the same issues, please feel free to leave comments down below.

To preface, I have been using my Macbook pro mid-2012 15in retina display for 10 years now since 2012. I absolutely love my laptop and have been using it as my one and only since 2012. To further preface my post, the work I do on my laptop is mostly typing, copying, pasting and selecting text from different documents (Word, PDF, google Doc, etc.) in a rather quick manner.

I quite enjoy my 2012 mac as it has what I consider to be a nice keyboard (unlike the newer post 2012 generation macs) as well as a nice trackpad. The trackpad is small, doesn't get in the way, is as smooth as butter when gliding your finger over it, and most importantly, it's NOT a Force touch trackpad. It is a "regular" physical click-up-and-down trackpad.

I recently purchased (and unfortunately returned) a new macbook pro M1 Max. While I have some smaller nitpick issues, the issue which caused me to be unable to work on the new macbook and thus consequently return it was the trackpad.

1) the new force touch trackpad is TOO large. Whenever I would type my arms would touch the trackpad and thus move the cursor and the cursor would select a large portion of text at random. This of course would interrupt / disrupt my work. This happened FREQUENTLY.

2) the new force touch trackpad's performance is TOO variable. I find clicking using the force touch trackpad to be an abominable task. 50% of the time when I wanted to select move my cursor, the cursor would select (highlight) the text INSTEAD OF simply moving the cursor to the new position. This happened EVERY single time I would use my cursor. YES, I played around with the trackpad settings many times. I find it very unsatisfying AND a pain to use - ESPECIALLY when typing / copying / pasting / selecting text quickly - it is VERY DIFFICULT.

3) not really as important as the other two issues, but I have to say the 2012 trackpad movement is very smooth and the tactile feel is extremely soft - like butter. The 2021 mbp M1 Max has a NOTICEABLY gritty feeling trackpad action... not at all pleasant.

The trackpad is pretty much the sole reason why I am still holding off on purchasing a new mbp. It would be GREAT if Apple was to offer THE OPTION of having EITHER the force touch trackpad OR the "old" physical click trackpad on the NEW macbook pro m2 16 inch (and/ or further generations).
