Hi --
Thanks for taking the time to reply. Unfortunately, what you're suggesting is what I explained in my original post isn't working for me (and continues to not work via your supplied link):
- I go to apple.com/itunes on my Windows laptop.
- It invites me to download iTunes for Windows at the Microsoft Store (with a link to do so).
- That link goes to this page--https://apps.microsoft.com/store/detail/itunes/9PB2MZ1ZMB1S?hl=en-ca&gl=CA-- which has screen shots of iTunes and a Get in Store app link on the right (the only clear option to download anything)
- And clicking on that link takes me to the Microsoft Store itself, with the result I'll supply here in a screen cap:
This is, for what it's worth, the same result I was getting on my wife's computer (via Chrome, whereas I use Firefox). As you can see, iTunes isn't even showing in search results, let alone being made available to download.
A quick online search for a statement akin to 'itunes not available for Windows' presents many posts regarding iTunes no longer being made available for Windows. While there were various conclusions as to why it's the case--some said it was glitchy enough that Microsoft kicked it out of its store, others said it was Apple's choice, etc.--what they all agreed on was that someone using Windows could no longer download iTunes. Some sites stated that if you already had it installed, it wouldn't be affected other than it may no longer upgrade, but those same sites said that, again, it wasn't available to download for Windows users who didn't already have it.
I'm just at a loss for where this leaves iPhone users who don't have iTunes available to do a sanctioned manual backup of their phone data. I've seen a number of third party services/apps that claim to back up data to Windows well and thoroughly, but I'm reluctant to use those, plus they cost quite a bit. But that seems to be the only option at the moment.
