A SafeBoot disables third party as your test.

  This will tell you if it a universal issue or isolated to your user/admin account. 

Uninstall all third party apps that are Cleaners/Optimizers/VPN/Anti-Virus

all known to cause issues on the macOS

Other known issue:

—>System Preferences > Accessibility > General and Mouse and Trackpad and make sure it is turned off

Try an external keyboard to see if it does the same thing.

I setup a new user and had same problem. It seems like a global problem.

Previously (2 days ago) if i pressed any key on the keyboard it would power on. Now i have to press far right of the touch bar to power on.

That normally indicates your internal keyboard is failing and may well need repair/replacement. Any software issues usually affect all keyboards the same.
