How to open the location of a photo in other map apps

We did a great walk yesterday and a few friends want to know the location of a certain point on the walk. I want to be able to share the location with them from a photo, which has the location on it, but can’t see how to do it aside from manually trying to work it out and place it on an alternative map app, which is pretty difficult given me that we were in the middle of no where. Does any one know how I can get the location to be able to share it somehow?

Oh, I see. If you're all right with coordinates (which can be pasted into Maps), various third-party apps exist that will get it from the photo. One such option is Exif Viewer. If you don't like the idea of a third-party app, but do have access to a Mac computer, you can do it natively. Import the photo into the Finder, then right click the file. Select Open With > Preview. From there, go to Tools > Show Inspector and click through the Inspector tabs. This should show the GPS coordinates.

Good luck- sorry I couldn't be of more help!

You can't share the address directly, but there are a few things you can try.

Open the photo, then press the 'info' icon at the bottom (an 'i' with a circle around it). A small menu should come up which will show the location on a map. Press "Adjust" at the top. The current address will come up in the search bar at the top. (This may not be too accurate)

Alternatively, you can share the photo through Messages, which will also share the location.

Thank you! I tried this and got as far as getting the copy location button up, I clicked that, but then it doesn’t have anything to paste when I go to messages. Interestingly when I went to repeat the process, two options came up this second time, one to copy location and one to paste location. So it seems that the photos app can tell I have something copied but not iMessage or WhatsApp. Any ideas?

Yes sadly when I view the adjust option it only gives the location of the nearest town, which is miles away from where we were. Maybe I’m just going to have to try to figure it out manually. We’re talking about the Sierra Nevada in Spain here, crazy big and the maps aren’t as advanced and detailed as some other areas in the world. Wish me luck!
